Who We Are
Gentle Orb is an emotional regulation and daily routine support app designed for children with neurodivergent needs. It is operated by Gentle Ground. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at support@gentleground.org.
The Short Version
- We do not sell your data. Ever.
- We do not serve ads.
- We do not build profiles for marketing.
- Your child's information stays on your device and in your private iCloud account.
- You can delete everything at any time, permanently.
- Premium features are available via subscription through the Apple App Store.
What Information We Collect
Information you give us directly
When you set up Gentle Orb, you may provide:
- Your child's first name — used only to personalise in-app text (e.g. "How is Alex feeling?"). Never shared externally.
- Your child's age range — used to adjust language and recommendations within the app.
- Your child's interests — used to personalise the Movie Maker and routine builder. Stored locally and in your private iCloud account.
- Sound preferences — your selections in Sound Lab sessions. Stored locally and in your private iCloud account.
- Routine and schedule items — activities you add to your child's daily schedule.
- Star rewards and milestones — progress your child earns within the app.
Information collected automatically
We do not use analytics SDKs or tracking software. We do not collect crash reports, usage statistics, or behavioural data without your knowledge.
The only automatic data involved is:
- Apple Sign In — if you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive a stable anonymous user identifier from Apple. We do not receive your name or email address unless you explicitly choose to share them. Apple's privacy policy governs this process.
- iCloud sync — if you enable iCloud sync, your app data is stored in your own private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. We cannot access your iCloud data. Only you can.
Third-Party Services
Gentle Orb uses the following third-party services. We want you to know exactly what each one does.
Anthropic (Claude AI)
When you use AI-powered features — including the routine builder, personalised parent tips, AI-generated word categories, and sound matching — text describing your request is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response.
What is sent: A description of the task (e.g. "generate a routine for a child who needs to leave by 8:30"). Your child's name and interests may be included where relevant to personalise the result.
What is not sent: Photos, recordings, or any sensitive health information.

ElevenLabs
When the breathing voice guide feature is enabled, short text phrases ("Breathe in", "Breathe out") are sent to ElevenLabs to generate spoken audio. The resulting audio is cached on your device for the session.
What is sent: Short text strings only. No personal information.

Children's Privacy
Gentle Orb is designed to be used by parents on behalf of their children. The app is not directed at children and children are not expected to create accounts or interact with account features.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where applicable). All profile information about a child is entered by their parent or guardian.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected information about a child without parental consent, please contact us immediately at support@gentleground.org and we will delete it.
Gentle Ground is designed for use by families and caregivers. We do not knowingly collect or share personal information from children with third-party services without parental consent.
AI Voice Services and Third-Party Processing
Gentle Ground uses third-party artificial intelligence services, including ElevenLabs, to generate audio features within the app.
When using these features:
Text or inputs provided by users may be securely transmitted to ElevenLabs for the purpose of generating audio output
Gentle Ground does not knowingly transmit personally identifiable information of children to ElevenLabs
ElevenLabs processes this data as a service provider in accordance with its own privacy policies
This data is used solely to provide functionality within the app and is not used for advertising or tracking
Users may choose not to use these features at any time.
How We Store Your Data
All personal data is stored in one of two places:
- On your device — in local app storage, protected by iOS encryption.
- In your private iCloud account — if you enable sync, via Apple's CloudKit. This data is end-to-end encrypted in transit and accessible only to you. We have no access to your CloudKit data.
We do not operate our own servers that store your personal data.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data stored about your child at any time — it's in the app itself.
- Correct any information — edit it directly in Parent Settings.
- Delete everything permanently — go to Parent Settings → Account & Sync → Delete my account. This removes all data from iCloud and resets the app.
- Export your data — your routine and settings are visible and editable within the app. If you need a formal data export, contact us at support@gentleground.org
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information.
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as you have an active account. If you delete your account, all data is permanently removed from iCloud within 30 days. Data stored only on your device is deleted immediately when you uninstall the app.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you within the app. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
